This English text is provided for convenience. CapBeat is operated from Germany and subject to the GDPR; in case of any discrepancy, the German version prevails. Last updated: 14 September 2026.

2. The short version

CapBeat processes your audio and video entirely on your own computer. No recording, no transcript and no usage data ever reaches us. This website sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. We do count page views, without cookies and without keeping your IP address (section 4). The only personal data we hold is what you give us directly: your email address when you buy or download CapBeat, and whatever you write to us in a support message.

3. Website hosting (GitHub Pages)

This website is hosted by GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA (GitHub Pages). When you open a page, GitHub processes technically necessary data such as your IP address in server logs. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating the site securely and efficiently (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Data transfers to the USA are safeguarded by the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or the EU standard contractual clauses. See the GitHub Privacy Statement.

4. No cookies, and one cookieless page counter

This website sets no cookies, writes nothing into your browser and shows no advertising. That is why you see no consent banner: nothing is stored on or read from your device, so § 25 TDDDG does not apply here.

We do count page views, using GoatCounter, an open-source service run by Martin Tournoij in Tilburg, Netherlands, and hosted inside the EU. Recorded per page view: which page you opened, which page you came from, your approximate country, your browser and operating system, and your screen size.

Your IP address is never stored. It is used once, in memory, together with your browser string to compute a hash, so that GoatCounter can tell a returning visit from a new one within the same day. That hash is salted afresh every day and cannot be traced back to you. We cannot recognise individual visitors, follow anyone from site to site, or link a visit to a customer.

Why we do it at all: with a one-person product we have to know which pages actually help people and which are wasted effort. Legal basis is our legitimate interest in a website that works (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You may object at any time under Art. 21 GDPR, either by writing to support@getcapbeat.com or, simpler, right here. Details are in the GoatCounter privacy policy.

This setting lives in this browser only, as a single entry named skipgc. It is the one thing we ever store on your device, and only because you asked us to.

5. The plugin itself

CapBeat processes audio and video data exclusively on your local machine. Speech recognition (Whisper) and vocal separation (Demucs) run offline on your own hardware. Recordings, transcripts and project data are never transmitted to us or to anyone else.

6. Connections the plugin makes

Apart from local processing, CapBeat contacts the following servers – and no others:

Update and offer check – the plugin reads version.json and promo.json from getcapbeat.com (hosted by GitHub, see section 3) to see whether a newer version or a current offer is available. GitHub receives your IP address. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (keeping the software current and secure).
Downloading an update – if you press „Update now“, the installer is downloaded from github.com. GitHub receives your IP address.
Downloading the AI models – on first start the speech models are downloaded once from huggingface.co (Hugging Face, Inc., USA). Hugging Face receives your IP address. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (making the software usable).
Licence activation – when you unlock a Pro licence, the plugin sends your licence key and the name of your computer to the licence interface of Polar in order to validate the key and bind it to that device. Afterwards the licence is re-checked occasionally while you are online. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the contract). No audio, video or transcript data is transmitted at any point.

7. Buying a licence (Polar)

Pro and Studio licences are sold by Polar Software Inc. (USA) acting as Merchant of Record – your purchase contract is concluded with Polar, which is responsible for invoicing, taxes and payment data. Polar processes the details you enter at checkout (e.g. name, email address, payment data); we never receive complete payment data. Details: the privacy policy of Polar.

8. Contacting us by email

If you write to us, we process your details in order to answer your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete them once they are no longer needed and no statutory retention periods apply.

9. Support diagnostics

If something goes wrong, CapBeat can assemble a diagnostics package that you may send to us voluntarily. It contains technical information only – program version, Windows version, error messages and processing steps. It contains no audio, video or transcript content and no licence key. Nothing is sent automatically: the package is created on your computer and you decide whether to attach it to an email (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR – providing support).

10. Email updates

We occasionally send product news and offers by email to people who obtained CapBeat from us or who asked us for updates.

Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) where you gave it, or – for existing customers – our legitimate interest in direct marketing for our own similar products (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR in conjunction with § 7(3) UWG).
Objecting is always free: every email contains a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can write to support@getcapbeat.com at any time. We then stop immediately and keep your address only on a suppression list, so that you are not contacted again by mistake.
Processor: emails are delivered by Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc., San Francisco, CA, USA) under a data processing agreement, using the European infrastructure of Resend (Ireland). Transfers to the USA are safeguarded by the EU standard contractual clauses.
What we measure – and what we don’t: we do not track whether you open an email. We do record which link you clicked: links in our emails are routed through Resend, which logs the click before forwarding you to the page. We use this only to see which content is actually useful. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving what we send (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object at any time at support@getcapbeat.com – and simply not clicking works just as well.
Retention: your address stays on the list until you unsubscribe.

11. How long we keep data

We keep personal data only as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for, or as long as statutory retention periods require (under commercial and tax law, normally six to ten years for purchase records – these are held by Polar as the seller).

12. No automated decision-making

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.

13. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time with effect for the future. To exercise any of these rights, write to support@getcapbeat.com.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht, Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany).

14. Changes to this policy

We update this policy whenever CapBeat changes – for example when a new feature contacts a new service. The date at the top of this page always shows the current version.
